Neck and back pain treatment in Potters Bar

From a stiff neck after desk work to recurring lower back pain, your care starts with understanding your symptoms. Gugan Hair brings over twenty years of clinical experience to an individual assessment, treatment and rehabilitation plan.

Understanding your pain

Why do your neck and back hurt?

Neck and back pain can involve muscles, joints and sometimes irritated nerves. Long periods in one position, a change in activity, injury, poor sleep and stress can all contribute. Pain does not always mean damage, and there is no single “perfect” posture that prevents it.

At Potters Bar Spine Clinic, we look at how your symptoms affect work, sleep and movement, not just where it hurts. Persistent or recurrent pain deserves a careful assessment rather than an assumption that it is simply a slipped disc or a trapped nerve.

Your care

A plan built around you

  • Listen and assess

We discuss your medical history, symptoms and goals, then assess relevant movement and function. Examination is explained and carried out with your consent.

  • Agree suitable treatment

Where appropriate, osteopathic techniques may help ease muscular tension and improve comfortable movement. Treatment choices, possible after-effects and alternatives are discussed with you.

  • Rebuild movement and confidence

A tailored exercise and movement plan helps you gradually return to the activities that matter. Advice can include pacing, desk setup and changing position regularly.

  • Review progress

We review your response and adapt the plan. If symptoms suggest a condition outside osteopathic care, or progress is not as expected, we discuss medical referral.

For some conditions, K-Laser therapy may be discussed as an additional option, not a substitute for assessment or active rehabilitation. It is not recommended for every cause of neck or back pain.

Questions

Neck and back pain FAQ

Can an osteopath help with neck and back pain?

Osteopathic care may help some people with musculoskeletal neck and back pain. An assessment checks your symptoms, movement and medical history before agreeing an appropriate plan. Hands-on treatment, where suitable, is combined with exercise and advice rather than used as a standalone cure. If your symptoms need medical investigation, Gugan will advise you to see your GP or seek urgent care.

Do I need a scan before booking?

Most uncomplicated neck and back pain does not require a scan before an initial assessment. Imaging is considered when serious causes are suspected or the result would change treatment. A GP or specialist can arrange further investigation where necessary.

Should I rest or keep moving?

For uncomplicated back pain, continuing comfortable everyday activity is usually preferable to prolonged bed rest. Short walks and regular changes of position can help. Do not force painful movements; seek advice if activity causes spreading pain, numbness or weakness.

How many appointments will I need?

There is no fixed number that suits everyone. Your plan depends on the nature and duration of your symptoms, your health and your goals. Progress is reviewed with you, and the plan is adjusted if you are not improving. Relief and recovery cannot be guaranteed.
